Thursday’s weekly guide to Personal Growth from 4EvaYoung.com

Some of the greatest teachers, visionaries and leaders have left a profound mark on scores of people including myself. Other times it is just ordinary people doing extraordinary things with their lives. No matter where you are at currently in life, these videos are sure to stir up your emotions and challenge you to lead your life to it’s highest potential. Here is a collection of 5 of my favorite inspirational and motivational videos I’ve found online.

Steve Jobs - Stanford Commencement Speech 2005

“You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”

Nick Vujicic - Life Without Limbs“Nick was born without arms or legs. He has had to learn to adapt to this, and has achieved the seemingly impossible. Nick shares how there were several times when life would seem hopeless and not worth living for. He takes the audience on an emotional and captivating journey that lets them experience a taste of the adversity Nick faced. The key turning points in his attitude from depression to joy are truly inspirational. He reveals the secret of how to unleash the limits on their goals and dreams and imparts strength to never give up. The speech is not in its entirety but if you want more information on Nick or the rest of his speech you can always purchase his video from his site, it would be going to a worthy cause.”

Daniel Tammet - The Boy With The Incredible Brain“This is the breathtaking story of Daniel Tammet. A twenty-something with extraordinary mental abilities, Daniel is one of the world’s few savants. He can do calculations to 100 decimal places in his head, and learn a language in a week. This documentary follows Daniel as he travels to America to meet the scientists who are convinced he may hold the key to unlocking similar abilities in everyone. He also meets the world’s most famous savant, the man who inspired Dustin Hoffman’s character in the Oscar winning film ‘Rain Man’. (2005)”

Martin Luther King - I have a dream

“When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

Team Hoyt - Dick and Rick Hoyt

“Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father-and-son team from Massachusetts who together compete just about continuously in marathon races. And if they’re not in a marathon they are in a triathlon — that daunting, almost superhuman, combination of 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of bicycling, and 2.4 miles of swimming. Together they have climbed mountains, and once trekked 3,735 miles across America.”

Tez, Many times I wonder where one’s driving force comes from. I guess, we all have our individual reasons for reaching our full potential. Steve Jobs’ - Stanford Commencement 2005 Speech was truly inspiring. Not only is he extraordinary in his faith but Jobs is always seeking the best in things. He found a higher meaning in his some of the difficulties that he experienced. He was rejected but still was in love in his vision. Wow, what a statement! And now he changes lives through sharing his story. It’s not until a few years ago that I realised that certain misfortunes and obstacles truly serves us. Like a butterfly coming out of it’s cocoon, struggle is sometimes necessary for flight. However, as the “misfortune” is being experienced, it can sometimes be hard to see a better tomorrow. Today, I am grateful to have gone through some of these so called “misfortunes” as it has caused me to have a shift in mindset and it has given me a new perspective to what I want to be, do and have (and share) in this life. As I look back, I can now say that it is easier to connect the dots and as a fellow traveler I thank you for this post. – Ray

Ray, Great to see you’ve grown as a result of your “misfortunes”. I think Steve Job’s and the other videos are great examples of the power of the human spirit to overcome great odds to achieve a lasting mark on humanity. A wish you success in your journey.

These videos take us to our Heart. That is what I find most compelling. We spend so much time in our head looking for the next solution; we rarely take the time to settle at our Heart Center. We need to remember to move at a slower pace and appreciate the world more deeply.
