If you have read Rich Dad Poor Dad then you are well aware that getting a job is not necessarily the wisest path for everyone. That’s not to say that everyone should rush out and quit their job as many people are perfectly happy with working for someone else. But if you are someone who has always had that thought in the back of your mind about starting out on your own then these posts might give you the necessary inspiration to quit your day job and follow your dream.
10 Reasons You Should Never Get a Job
Steve has written an insightful article on why you should never get a job. Steve intelligently questions the age old status quo of going to college and getting a job arguing “It’s funny that when people reach a certain age, such as after graduating college, they assume it’s time to go out and get a job. But like many things the masses do, just because everyone does it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. In fact, if you’re reasonably intelligent, getting a job is one of the worst things you can do to support yourself. There are far better ways to make a living than selling yourself into indentured servitude.”
He goes on to say “Getting a job is like enrolling in a human domestication program. You learn how to be a good pet. Look around you. Really look. What do you see? Are these the surroundings of a free human being? Or are you living in a cage for unconscious animals? Have you fallen in love with the color beige?”
So if you still think getting a job is a good proposition for you then consider Steve’s poignant attack on the so called safe option: “Many employees believe getting a job is the safest and most secure way to support themselves…Morons. Social conditioning is amazing. It’s so good it can even make people believe the exact opposite of the truth. Does putting yourself in a position where someone else can turn off all your income just by saying two words (”You’re fired”) sound like a safe and secure situation to you? Does having only one income stream honestly sound more secure than having 10?”
How to Find What You Love to Do
Invest in yourself and make it happen is the theme of Brian’s blog and he is passionate about getting people to live their dream: “What absolutely boils my blood is that we hear we should be doing what we love to do all the time, but there’s not any step by step advice out there on how to find what you love to do. The advice that is out there helps to a certain degree, but it’s just a bunch of pieces thrown together with no coherent logical structure or order.”
“People working in jobs they hate, feeling trapped because they can’t quit as they rely on that sole source of income to finance a lifestyle tailored to escape their grim reality, drifting aimlessly in life, in short, leading lives of quiet desperation, as so eloquently put by Henry David Thoreau.”
So if your sick of working at a job you hate then maybe it’s time you invested in yourself and follow Brian’s guide on finding what it is you love to do.
The Dangers Of Working For A Living
Shaun starts of the article with this chilling scenario: “Two people I know just lost their day jobs. One of them is in her late 20s, and the other is in her 50s. Regardless of their age difference, they are both recently unemployed, and are thus facing the same frightening question: What happens now?”
“Fact of the matter is, layoffs aren’t always made as a result of employee evaluations. Budget cuts, downsizing, buyouts and outsourcing are all circumstances that are economic, not personal — meaning your job is at risk even if you’re a model employee. ”
Why Getting a Good Job isn’t the Best Way to Earn Money
“A job is a way to earn money. It’s how most people earn money. It’s what I do today. It just isn’t the best way to earn money. I wish I would have known this twenty-five years ago. I wish my parents had taught me this, I wish the schools had taught me this. In a minute, I’ll share the secret with you.”
Steve concludes his post with a very useful piece of advice:
“So, since I wish I had never believed that getting a good job is the best way to earn money, I am not going to teach my sons this adage – get a good education so you can get a good job.
I’m going to teach my children this:
If you learn how to create value for other people – doing what you love – you’ll never have to get a job.”
